Who qualifies for the Military Epic Pass for Active/Retired Military and their Dependents?
The following Canadian military personnel and their families qualify for a Military Epic Pass:
- Active Duty (full-time): A person who is currently serving on active duty in the military full-time in Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
- CAF Regular Force Members: Includes officers and non-commissioned members who are enrolled for continuing, full-time military service. Includes students on full-time study status (such as Regular Officer Training Program) who have a valid NDI 20 (Canadian Forces ID Card) or valid NDI 10 (temporary card).
- Reservists/Reserve Forces: A person in the CAF Reserve Forces – who may not be deployed, but can be called up at any time. Members of the CAF Reserve Forces are eligible for the Military Epic Pass (Active/Retired/Dependent) if they are currently serving in the Reserves.
- CAF Reserve Force Members: Includes the Primary Reserve (serving on one of three classes of service – A, B and C):
- The Naval Reserve;
- The Canadian Army (CA) Reserve;
- The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Reserve;
- Military Personnel Command (MILPERSCOM) Reserve which includes: the CAF Health Services Reserve, MILPERSCOM Primary Reserve List (PRL) and the National Defense Headquarters PRL
- The Canadian Special Operations Forces Command Reserve (CANSOFCOM); and
- The Legal Reserve
- Retired:Canadian Armed Forces (CAF): 10 years of service in the CAF, and have the NDI 75 Card that shows 10+ years served.
- CAF Dependent: Registered Dependents of qualifying CAF Active/Retired Military members, including spouse and child dependents. Parents of military members are not included, as well as children who are no longer dependent. Age/eligibility of child dependents are listed below.
Who qualifies for the Military Epic Pass for Veterans and Veteran Dependents?
The following Canadian military personnel and their families qualify for a Military Epic Pass:
- Dependent: Immediate family of Veteran Military members, including spouse and any child dependents. Parents of military members are not included, as well as children who are no longer dependent.
- What are age/eligibility requirements of Child Dependents in the Military?
- Vail Resorts relies on military definitions and eligibility as defined by the Canadian military, who individually defines dependent children as:
- CAF: a biological child, adopted child or legal ward, of a member or a member’s spouse or common-law partner, who resides with the member at the member’s place of duty, is under 21 years of age and continues to be in a dependent relationship with the member or the member’s spouse or common-law partner.
- Children who are 18+ will still be required to purchase an adult dependent pass. Child pricing is available for Military Epic Pass – Veteran for Child dependents under the age of 18.
What if I am a military member or dependent in Canada, can I buy the Liberty Pass?
Service members and their dependents from Canada will be eligible for the Military Epic Pass offering. They are not included in the Liberty Pass offering.
I am a qualifying Military Dependent. Am I able to purchase an Epic Pass if the service member doesn’t buy a Military Epic Pass?
Yes, we want to honor all families who have members who are serving or who have served. With proper dependent verification, you and your family can still purchase the appropriate Military Epic Pass (for U.S. Uniformed Forces and service members of Australia or Canada and their dependents).
Are any other country’s military organizations eligible?
Members of the United States Uniformed Forces, the Canadian Armed Forces, and the Australian Defense Force are currently eligible for the Military Epic Pass.
How will Canadian verification work?
For Canadian service member verification, the process will be initiated within the checkout flow of the military pass purchase. Depending on your status with the military, this may happen automatically or there may be some additional documentation needed in order to verify your eligibility. You will be required to verify prior to purchase for all military pass products. In certain circumstances, you may need to contact SheerID using this form to finalize the verification process.
What Canadian military branches are eligible for the Military Epic Pass offerings?

What kind of proof is required for verification?
Below is a list of approved forms of military identification:
Canadian Armed Forces:
- Active/Retired/Reserves: valid NDI 20 (Canadian Forces ID Card) or valid NDI 10 (temporary card)
- Veteran: A person who served in the active military/reserve forces and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.
- CDF: Former members of the CAF who released with an honorable discharge and who successfully underwent basic training would have an NDI 75, or CAF 74 ID card, or a CFOne card with Veteran status (“V”)
- Retired: Proof of 10 years of service in the CAF, or have the NDI 75 Card that shows 10+ years served
- Reserve Forces: Proof of current service in Primary Reserve (serving on one of three classes of service – A, B and C)
- Veteran: NDI 75, or CAF 74 ID card, or a CFOne card with Veteran status (“V”)
What happens if I cannot prove my affiliation?
All military organizations give its members some kind of official document that we'll accept, but in the event, you are unable to provide us with an acceptable proof of affiliation, we will not be able to verify you and cannot offer you access to the Military Epic Pass. I purchased my Military Epic Pass online but have not yet received the actual pass. Can I access the eligible resorts?
Yes, bring your Military Epic Pass confirmation and photo ID (and applicable service documents for Canadian military members) to any Vail Resorts owned-and-operated Pass Office to redeem a day pass. The release of liability must have been completed for your Season Pass to be active, and you must have successfully completed the military verification process. How does Epic Coverage work for the Military Pass offerings sold on EpicPass.com?
For the 2024/25 season, Epic Coverage is included with the purchase of your 2024/25 Epic Pass, and provides refunds associated with certain personal events, including illness, job loss, and injury, as well as resort closures.
